And at least if there is a judge who is not a teacher (we had one at Ohio Valley) They will definitely at least know what the topic is about.

The preconceptions about merit pay were FAR worse in my opinion last topic than they were this topic, I personally like this topic a ton, it’s got the key ingredients for some great rounds and the great thing is that the evidence on the topic is practically endless.

And at least if there is a judge who is not a teacher (we had one at Ohio Valley) They will definitely at least know what the topic is about.

By: PFDer

<guid

As for the politicized nature, this resolution has comparatively less than other ones, and anyway, it happens in every debate, not just this resolution. Do you think all judges are completely neutral about merit pay, many being teachers themselves?

I agree, and I love how the topic was released even before Obama’s decision was made public.<br

Pf was made for a current events debate like this one and I am sure it will lead to some very interesting rounds. Politics always seem like they will play a bigger role than they end up playing. I guess at locals you could get moms and dads voting on their politics but I doubt much of that will happen at big tournaments.

Wow this is a great topic in my opinion, probably one of the best I have seen in the past two years. In fact, it's in real time. :D

Best topic ever. It actually fits the description of PF being a debate division focused on current topics. Increasing troops is highly politicized but I think having to prepare for this topic will be beneficial for students to form their own reasoned opinions.

Wow, this is actually pulled from the headlines. Darn it, the January curse is on. This isn't even a bad topic (there's ground on both sides) but the highly politicized nature (its TOO current) makes it an uphill battle to not only beat your opponent, but the preconceived notions your judge has as well.

As if there wasn’t enough bias in the topics, introduce a CURRENTLY highly politicized topic like this is suicide.
