Victor & Tammy Jih won The Amazing Race so CBS has taken a chance on another former debater. Big Brother 11 has cast Ronnie, a 30-year-old Star Wars collector and a national champion in speech and debate.
He is obsessed with video games and often plays more than six hours a day, even to the point of ignoring his wife. Ronnie is a collector of all things sci-fi, especially Star Wars collectibles.
Ronnie is an über BIG BROTHER fan who can recite the order of every person ever evicted from the BIG BROTHER house. This student is most proud of being a national champion in speech and debate, as he feels this activity is where he excels.
I’m sure he will do wonders for the debater stereotype.

His full name is Ronnie Talbot. He is a 30-year-old student at Ohio University. As far as I can tell, when he says “speech & debate” he means speech. He says he is a national champion in persuasive speaking. He placed in a number of events at the Pi Kappa Delata National Tournament this year. Is he seriously a national champion? I can’t seem to find anything about him.
As someone in the speech community, I can definitely say that… unless he won at Novice Nats (where the results are sometimes unavailable online), this dude is NOT a national champion. I don’t understand why anyone would lie about that sort of thing in the age of this contraption we call The Googles.
As Ronnie’s coach, I will confirm that he never won a national championship, however placed at Pi Kappa Delta Nationals in Broadcast Journalism and Dramatic Interp. I don’t condone his misleading statements. However, after watching his audition video I think it is important to remember that he is playing a “character” on a game show. To my knowledge, no cast member on Big Brother is sworn to tell the absolute truth in their audition or on the show.
While he may not be sworn to “tell the absolute truth,” it’s pretty sad that he had to invent a national championship to make himself feel better. Further, doesn’t that merely cheapen the efforts of those who actually have won national championships?
Besides, the video in question was an audition for another show, Solitary. So, the whole “he’s playing a character” line is just bunk. Perhaps even more disturbing is the lack of discussion regarding his comments about WKU. Do you have a response to his accusations?
I don’t think Ronnie has any obligation to tell the truth during the game. However, the marketing material from CBS which was posted before the game began indicates that he was making this claim before he entered the house.
