A great weekend! Congrats to all!

I heard there was a tab error in JV semis that prevented Asheville from advancing to finals. Apparently, because of the resolution’s negative wording (they used march’s), a judge mixed up pro and con and gave the win to the con even though she wrote that she was persuaded of the negative consequences of the primaries.

I wouldn’t be suprised — this tournament was lurking with dubious advancements.
Keith Pittman 04.21.08 at 1:46 pm
There was actually NOT a tab error. It only looked like one. The judge used a double negative “not not” on the ballot in justifying a decision. Our debaters incorrectly (but understandably)read this as just “not.” The “not not” clearly indicates that my team did, indeed, lose the round. As much as I would have liked this to be a tab error, it was not and we take the loss.

Dubious advancements?
Give it a rest. If we all supposedly know who should win, why bother with a tournament?
Such an argument is as silly as appointing qualifiers to a national tournament.

Oh, sorry about that. Just wanted to get to the bottom of that…
Thanks, Mr. Pittman

Myers Park would win every round otherwise! Congratulations to everyone and Mr. Kline!

Good job everyone! North Carolina is a ridiculously strong state in PFD.
Jason Kline 04.22.08 at 3:59 am
There is definately going to be some good PFD in this state next year!

I apologize for the errors made, and my lateness in posting a response.
During dinner on Saturday, at 8:30 or so (Big Congratulations to the tab for running a speedy and on-time tournament by the way) my partner and I misread a ballot, and apparently a team-mate over heard us, and then passed this information along.
I’m sorry, it was late at night, and we did intend to make sure we were 100% correct before any action was taken, however it seems we were.. superseded shall we say by people who really perhaps ought not to be speaking of these things without hard evidence.
Once again, thanks to the tab staff for running a great tournament, and congratulations to all of the tournament winners. I apologize for the inconvenience. I also greatly look forward to next years debate field. It will be quite interesting indeed, with so many skilled seniors graduating.
The best of luck to anyone competing in Nationals in June.
