Topic Ideas For NFL Nationals
Do you have an idea for a Public Forum Debate topic for the NFL National Tournament? A discussion broke out on an unrelated post and I would like to shift the discussion to a more logical place.

Anything posted in here will be sent to the PFD wording committee. Any defense you offer, including evidence it would be a good topic, will also be included.
I already posted this in the other forum, but just so it’s easier to organize:
Something on Afghanistan or Pakistan would be good, I think. There is an enormous amount of information on the internet and the situation is complex enough that it would allow for a large number of arguments/possible resolutions. I don’t have any specific ideas for specific resolutions, but I think that any topic focusing on the importance of backing military strongmen in Pakistan over civilian authorities would be good (this admittedly might be outdated by nationals unfortunately).
Granted, a topic on backing democracy over US friendly strongmen in general, or in terms of the war on terror (not just Pakistan) might also work.
Whatever happens though, I really don’t want to debate China. I think that recent info from the media would make what should be a two-sided debate one-sided simply due to judges’ bias.
Something like:
Resolved: the US should value stability over strengthening democracy abroad, perhaps.
I think that there are concrete arguments to be made for both sides. The one admitted flaw in this is that it might just turn into the pro and con giving arguments relating to different countries, so it might lead to spreading and a lack of clash.
Sorry for being indecisive.
There has been alot on the international level about the UN and its actions of how it isn’t working or it’s working against what everyone wants. Plus the UN has been involved in almost all international issues so there should be alot on that stuff. Here are three resolutions I put together:
Resolved: Changing the membership or procedures of the United Nations Security Council could improve its credibility.
Resolved: The UN Security Council has become a barrier towards addressing the rising global threat of international terrorism and rogue states.
Resolved: The United Nations is becoming more a danger to human rights enforcement than a defender of such rights.
This is an extended discussion of my previous post…
I almost want a repeat of gambling: perfect for Vegas. But perhaps a biased judging pool…
Specifically I’ll throw out these topics as well:
cancellation of 3rd world debt (unused LD topic that would be great for pfd),
intervention in nations for humanitarian purposes (again LD topic but w/ strong PFD arguments),
efficacy of jury trials (would love this one! psychology, law, and our judicial system would be on trial. parden the pun.),
globalization (good for developing nations? good for us?),
nafta (good for us? should we pull out?),
preferability two-party systems v. coalition/multiparty govs.,
and the international criminal court (should we join?).
I feel like universal healthcare would be a more PF-worthy topic, although judge’s bias may be too strong. I’d rather avoid the LD-esque topics that we’ve been having lately.
an interesting topic might be about the safety of holding the olympic games in china.
because there is alot more in the news about the conflict in and near china, there would be alot of arguments on the validity of these possible threats and if these threats will even affect the games.
I think that one of the best topics we could have for nationals would be that Resolved: The United Nations have become an Integral part in the war on terror.
the reason for this is because it gives a good debate for pro and con and it would really come down to who argued it better which would provide great clash for any round in P.F. debate, and thats what nationals needs
I am fairly certain that the topic is going to be universal health care.
Oh, didn’t realize this was suggestions, not predictions haha
Further resolution ideas (not just topics) should be posted ASAP, we are beginning the process!!
Resolved: That Kosovo’s independence should be recognized on the global stage.
sir swish just stop now no1 wants to hear more about the war we’re all WARRED OUT!! the national tournament would be better off having us debate whether red is a better color than blue haha but seriously let’s think outside the box _

4 my earlier comment the resolution would be
Resolved: That China threatens the safety of the Olympic games.
No one else has said anything yet, but something about the Electoral College being inequitable or unfair?
like;
“Resolved: The Electoral College in the United States no longer provides for the needs of the people.”
Well, ALL of you were wrong.
Yeah Terror!
