holla 12.01.06 at 9:42 am

how the hell could anyone argue neg. what is it with these one sided topics, are they out of their mind?

Captain Krotch 12.01.06 at 12:53 pm

Negg is not screwed, Jack Abramoff and his associates give Lobbying a bad image. there are a lot of positive lobbyists. Such as envirnmental preservation and anti smoking.

This topic is extremely well balanced. Read first, then comment!!

Graeme 12.01.06 at 3:49 pm

Initially I’m feeling a bit more inclined to to aff, but like Jason said, first read then decide which is actually better.

The problem is that the word “Lobbyists” has received a negative spin over time. It’s always those dirty “lobbyists” who are paying off politicians for their votes. There’s a Kritik in here somewhere…

I was the person who submitted this topic to NFL for potential selection. Not only are there great arguments and examples on both sides (for every oil company lobbyist there is someone who wants to save endangered species) but lobbying reform will be in the news beginning Jan. 1 when the press begins to discuss Pelosi’s proposed lobbying reforms. It should make for an interesting and evolving debate over the course of the month.

I like this topic. Pity I don’t get to debate it.

ezekel 12.02.06 at 2:53 pm

this topic suffers from the same problem as the multinational diplomacy topic, in that there isn’t any way to say that all lobbying is beneficial or vice versa. The real answer is that some lobbying is good and other types aren’t. There is no way you can pass judgement on things like this. More topics should be like Kyoto, and intelligent design since we can actually debate wheter a policy should be enacted rather than just pass judgement on things that really can’t be judged.

Jason 12.02.06 at 10:36 pm

Ezekel has never done LD I guess.

Remember, PF is not policy debate. Although topics can focus on a specific topic, PF is about issues, really.

Meg 12.04.06 at 4:44 pm

I really like this topic…there is good lobbying and definitely bad lobbying such as tobacco, and oil.

Captain Krotch 12.05.06 at 3:16 pm

It is a hard topic for the neg, all the aff has to do is give a good example of negative lobbying, and heat is on.

Hardman 12.07.06 at 8:17 pm

I see NOTHING wrong with lobbying-pro is going to be the harder of the 2 if you were to ask me. Hurray that I know a lobbyists!!!

Captain Krotch 12.11.06 at 1:17 pm

Bad grammar, over-capitalization, and an overblown sense of importance!!! You have all the signs of someone who spends way too much time on the internet!!! Good For You!!!

Joseph Fisher 12.13.06 at 12:04 pm

I think that the neg has some strong evidence…probably stronger than aff. But the resolution is still way too ambiguous

Amy 12.14.06 at 2:05 pm

I hate this topi. there seems to be no possible way to argue the negative side of it!!!

Myles 12.29.06 at 6:04 am

I think people are misguided about this topic, especially in terms of the Neg.

The are two reasons that this is a balanced debate:
1. Lobbyists get a bad rap because the bad ones are the ones we hear about, but the neg can show that the net benefit, overall, lobbying is good people, trying to help the political process. And proving that there is more good than bad should not be too difficult.
2. The neg can also argue that what would lobbyists do w/o any information regarding what they are voting on: they would be voting uniformed making bad decisions for their constitutients (spell check.) What we learned in my Government class is that the purpose of lobbyists is to provide information.

I think this topic is very balanced and I give kudos who ever thought of it.

you have got to be kidding me. PRO is actually the harder of the two! since you guys seem to be so inclined to the pro side, care to share some points?

blah 01.16.07 at 8:50 pm

can somebody put a good case saying that lobbyists are good if you can think up of 3 good points and post them then i think that i will believe that this is a good resolution to debate about

blah 01.16.07 at 8:51 pm

neg= lobbyists are bad

chewbacca 01.17.07 at 2:43 pm
