JW Patterson from the University of Kentucky has posted the qualifying rules for the 2007 Tournament of Champions. The Public Forum division is now a qualifying tournament instead of a round robin. According to the announcement, teams in the top 3 at at the 2006 TOC, teams in the quarterinals of the 2006 NFL National Tournament, and the 2006 CFL National Tournament* have already qualified.
Read Professor Patterson’s post for all the details.
*There was not a Public Forum division at the 2006 NCFL Grand Nationals.

Does anyone know who choose the list of tournaments this year and/or how they were chosen?
The list seems a bit haphazard and unthoughtout to me. It seems like some of the best tournaments of the year arent specifically listed meerely, we are excpected to judge the quality of a tournament afterwards based on meeting the 50 entry/5 state requirement. I also don’t understand why that would not have just been the requirement for everything. What inheriently is making Lexington or Manchester or St Marks, ect not have to meet that requierment? Also, it seems clear that the 3 tournaments with a semi or final bid are rather random as well. Whats to say if a tournament such as Crestian reaches only 45 entries that it wasnt better than those 3 that were lucky enough to be chosen to start?

For the NFL Requirement, what are they using to determine the Quarterfinals versus octofinals? At this past national tournament, places 8-12 were all taken by teams that reached the 12th round, while 13 and 14 were taken by teams eliminated in the 11th round. Now, is the requirement saying that teams 1-8 are considered quarterfinalists, and 9-14 are Octofinalists? If so, that would seem to be a rather flawed system. the 8th place team went no farther than the 9-12 place teams, yet is rewarded more. Why don’t they merely exempt the top 14, or otherwise set a particular round, such as round 12 or 13, as the cutoff. Additionally, correct me if I am wrong, but I didn’t think that the 2006 CNFL National Tournament included a Public Forum division. Can anyone clarify that?

As I stated in the original post, there was no Public Forum division at the CFL National Tournament.

I don’t really understand why tournaments like Wake Forest, Crestian, and Blue Key are listed. What about Princeton and UPenn as well?

I meant aren’t listed as automatically bid tournaments, and don’t have to meet the 50 team/5 state requirement.
Sorry :’(

i was eliminated in round 10 of nationals, does that qualify as a octafinalist position in terms of bids?

So can anyone give me a more comprehensive qualifying list including that 50 team 5 state rule?
