Standpoint & Standpedia

Standpoint LogoStandpoint and Standpedia are related sites that might be of interest to the debate community. For debaters, Standpedia is the more interesting site since it allows you to create a map of arguments and supporting claims.

Standpoint (from the Standpoint FAQ)
“Standpoint is a place where you can share your beliefs. It’s a place where you can learn about the perspectives of other people. It’s a social encyclopedia of belief. It’s a tool for organizing the web by opinion.”

Standpedia (from the Standpedia FAQ)
“Standpedia is wiki-style encyclopedia of controversy. It’s a place where tough questions are answered from a variety of perspectives, instead of a single ‘neutral point of view’.

Unlike traditional encyclopedia articles, good Standpedia maps are rife with controversy. And yet, Standpedia users work together to build maps of controversial issues that everyone can agree on — not because the map offers one right answer but because all the perspectives are well-represented within the map.

In true wiki style, any Standpedia user can modify any portion of a map. As a user you can add a new perspective, help clarify an existing one, challenge a claim that otherwise seems undisputed, or create a new issue map altogether. Your perspective is important and helps make every map better.”
