in Debate Camps

Midwest Debate Institute (MDI) is proud to include Public Forum Debate in our 28th consecutive summer program. Our location in Kansas City, Missouri, offers many convenient and economical options for students from across the country. The camp runs July 10th – 14th (Partners who attend together receive a discount). MDI focuses on how PFD is distinct from Lincoln-Douglas and policy debate. Just as extemp commentary is not sit-down extemp, public forum is not abbreviated policy or value debate. Campers will learn communication with the citizen judge as well as with their partners and opponents. MDI emphasizes the nuances of this new format: how to use the various speeches most effectively, how to use the expanded crossfire approach to cross examination, etc. Debaters will look at the current headlines, phrase their own topics, analyze, research and debate them. Complete enrollment information is available at www.midwestdebate.us.

Why come to MDI? Our staff! Midwest Debate was founded on the principal that high school students learn best from experienced high school teachers. Our staff includes:

  • David Watkins, coach of the 2005 NFL National Champs in Public Forum Debate.
  • Linda Box, coach of the 2nd place Public Forum Debate team at the 2005 NFL National Tournament.
  • Nancy Wedgeworth, coach of the 1st Place team in PFD at the 2004 NFL Nationals.
  • Randy Pierce, coach of the 3rd place team in Public Forum Debate at the NFL 2004 National Tournament.

A complete listing of the faculty and their backgrounds is available at www.midwestdebate.us.

Hey, if anybaody happens to take a look at this (I doubt it), I would like to get some feedback on which is better (to your knowledge): The Midwest Debate Institute or the Show Me Forensics institute? This summer I’m going to go one of them; I’m just not sure which one. Any help would be awesome.
